Swami Ramakrishnananda’s vision for this ashram based in the Catskill mountains in New York is to create a spiritual community in which visitors can join together with sannyasis and resident disciples in spiritual practices (sadhana), service (seva), and study (swadhyaya). The ashram is intended to serve as a sacred space where all can glorify the Vedic religion and culture….a school in which one learns to walk the path of enlightenment with the presence and guidance of an enlightened master.

The four-phase building plan describes the stages of the project that take the property from its present condition to where it can begin functioning, at which point ongoing improvements will continue to occur in progressive stages. It also provides a general overview of the projected costs.

Phase I: Main Building

General description: The existing 6000 sq ft structure is in poor condition and will be the first to be renovated. It will function as the main building and provide living quarters for residents and visitors until the completion of Phase II. This part of the project includes the following renovations:
• Roof
• Foundational work
• 10 full bathrooms
• Activity room/temple/yoga
• 14 bedrooms
• Commercial kitchen
• Dining room
Total cost: $420,000

Phase II: Satsang hall/Yoga space

General description: An existing 2000 sq ft barn will be restored and converted into a large Satsang hall/Yoga space and will function temporarily as the main temple until the completion of Phase III.
Total cost: $185,000

Phase III: Temple Hall

General description: An existing beautiful 2000 sq ft barn will be restored and converted into a large temple hall.
Total cost: $245,000

Phase IV: Guest Cabins

This phase of the project involves the building of five 2-bedroom cabins to house guests during weekend retreats and longer stays.
